The Princess and the Hound by Mette Ivie Harrison

He is a prince, heir to a kingdom threatened on all sides, possessor of the animal magic, which is forbidden by death in the land he'll rule.
She is a princess from a rival kingdom, the daughter her father never wanted, isolated from true human friendship but inseparable from her hound.
Though they think they have little in common, each possesses a secret that must be hidden at all costs. Proud, stubborn, bound to marry for the good of their kingdoms, this prince and princess will steal your heart, but will they fall in love?

Honestly, when I picked up The Princess and the Hound, I wasn't sure what to expect. I had never picked up something like it, and after reading it, I'm still a little undecided on whether or not I want to pursue books that are set in the past, with kings and queens and castles.

I was a little disappointed on how slow the novel seemed to move. The writing was well thought out though, that you could tell, and I love that from a book. Beatrice's secret was a wee bit surprising, and the ending was unexpected. It kept me on my toes.

Overall, not sure if I'll pick up the sequel, but I'll think about it. The Princess and the Hound has a good plot line, and I loved the mysterious Beatrice, but I was left wanting more.
