The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong

If you had met me a few weeks ago, you probably would have described me as an average teenage girl-someone normal. Now my life has changed forever and I'm as far away from normal as it gets. A living scientist experiment-not only can I see ghosts, but I was genetically altered by a sinister organization called the Edison Group. What does that mean? For starters, I'm a teenage necromancer whose powers are out of control; I raise the dead without even trying. Trust me, that is not a power you want to have. Ever.
Now I'm running for my life with three of my supernatural friends-a charming sorcerer, a cynical werewolf, and a disgruntled witch-and we have to find someone who can help us before the Edison Group finds us first. Or die trying.

I'm so happy I got this! I loved The Summoning so much, and The Awakening did not disappoint. It was just as exciting as The Summoning, if not more.
.
The sequel begins right where the prequel ended. Chloe and Rae are under the watchful eye of the Edison Group, living in almost complete isolation. With little freedom and small amounts of time together, Chloe and Rae talk. But later on, Chloe discovers that Rae did something hurtful, and though she can never trust her again, she still wants to save her from the clutches of Dr. Davidoff and Mrs. Enright.
.
Feeling betrayed by her aunt, Chloe no longer trusts her and tries her best to avoid her, until a dangerous situation brews, and her aunt, Lauren, follows through by helping her and an unexpected partner escape with Chloe. I really liked reading about Chloe's feelings of betrayal towards her mother's sister. And when they reunited, I was thrilled, but still a little suspicious that she would jump to save them right after turning them in.
.
After Derek and Simon, and Chloe and her witch frenemy are reunited it's back on the run for them. I was starting to miss how Chloe acted around Derek and Simon, and I was very satisfied when their relationships continued. There are still sparks of more than a friendship between Simon and Chloe, and it's hinted that another relationship might blossom into something more.
.
Derek and Chloe's interaction is something I love to read about. The sarcasm and anger from Derek when he can control his anger blends perfectly with Chloe's innocence and calm. Hopefully something special will develop in their future.
.
The Awakening was a great sequel, and Kelley Armstrong's writing was fantastic. I can hardly wait for the final novel in the trilogy: The Reckoning.

I loved this book so much! I can't wait until her next book is out. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down, just like the first book in the series.

So glad I got to read this book. After the cliff-hanger in the last one, I was getting desperate.

Great review - I loved The Summoning as well and I glad to hear this won't disappoint (because when a sequel is a let-down, that's the worst). I must say I'm disappointed that it sounds like nothing comes out of Chloe and Derek's reactions, but there IS always hope for the future.

Fantastic review! I still haven't read the first one, but it's about time I did since the sequel's out. Glad to hear both are great books.

I want to read it even more now!!! With the huge cliffhanger at the end of the first book, the wait until I get my hands on a copy is almost unbearable.
