Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

There were no surprises in Gatlin County
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.
At least, that’s what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong.

There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps, and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

Beautiful Creatures is addictive and will leave you breathless. Just after reading the first chapter I knew I'd love it. It's hypnotic and will take you in, piece by piece. Superior skill from the two authors has shown superbly; in the writing, character development and interaction, not to mention the Caster world created for the novel.

The characters were brilliantly thought out and written about thoroughly. It's impossible not to fall in love with them. Ethan, with his acceptance and sweetness towards Lena, will have your heart immediately, as you get to know him. It's no question as to what kind of guy he is. Lena, however, will make you wonder what she's about. You'll be dying to know what her secrets are. An interesting pair these two make.

I definitely loved the relationship between Ethan and Lena, it was special and unique. Unlike the majority of other novels, you get to read about their friendship from the start, and get to watch it develop into something more, gradually, like it would in real life. The realistic aspect of the romance was fantastic to read about and kept me interested throughout.

I felt that the length was perfect, and if Beautiful Creatures weren't as long as it was, the novel would've felt incomplete. Every page was worth something, and it's great to see that in a novel, after reading so many other books with pages that didn't need to be written.

Together, Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl have written an amazing novel. Beautiful Creatures is sure to be a best-seller.
